So the past 6-12 months, nutrition and DCM have been a big topic. There are some breeds that we know are genetically predisposed to DCM. Boxers, Dobermans, Weimaraners, Great Danes and Cocker Spaniels are the most common breeds to get this disease in the past. Recently, other breeds have started being diagnosed with this disease at an unusuallyhigh rate. Researchers have been trying to figure out why so many dogs were being diagnosed with a disease that has not affected their breed significantly in the past.
There is speculation that there is a link between an increase in the number of cases of DCM and what the pet is eating. Unfortunately, a tremendous amount of confusion and misinformation has circulated in the news and on social media. So UVH wants to review a few important facts!
What are the absolute proof and scientific data do you have besides maybe some far fetched theory of what you are telling people…you have none..stop pushing your false theories on people you are causing more harm than good..i cannot believe a professional organization would advertise unoproven facts to promote their own profits!! Hills garbage food really????
FDA says there is,
Potatoes are a member of the nite shade family 😱
Peas legumes peanuts all bad
The United States Food and Drug Administration recently announced reports of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs eating certain pet foods, particularly grain-free diets, containing high levels of potatoes or legumes seeds such as peas, lentils or beans.19 Jul 2018
2023 update: grain free diets not linked to dcm. Those claims never had real scientific grounds and were basically funded by big dogfood companies.
Initial research that started all the drama was based on biased data gathering (they basically requested vets to report dcm in dogs that are fed grain free, excluding those that are fed grain inclusive).
But it was enough to cast a suspicion and name and shame grain free food producers to cause worldwide panic and many vets/websites/youtube channels to advise strongly against grain free. Many even went that far to advise ONLY food produced by BIG companies like purina, hills, rc…you know, those that sell junk for sometimes almost premium price. At that point it was already clear to me we are witnessing disgraceful marketing campaign against rising grain free producers. Few years later, FDA still has no links of dcm and grain free.
So, do not panic or feel bad if you fed your dogs grain free. Most of the best available foods are actually grain free.
my dog died from this and it is a horrible thing to witness. You do not want to witness this ever trust me. The worst thing I ever saw in my life. I never knew it was from my dog food
